Sometimes it's worth it to cut and run. Since moving out in August at the tender age of 19, I will be seeing my father for the first time since then over thanksgiving. We'll see how that goes.

My father has multiple DUI's in the last five years, he owes me several thousands of dollars. Everytime I think he may have changed his ways he disappoints me again but I still love him.

I have come to terms with him regarding his debt to me and I strongly discourage him from driving drunk again, but I know he will. At best I can only hope to influence the options at hand, I purchased him a quality bicycle and a nice TV/DVD combo unit, hoping he wouldn't feel so alone at his home and if he did, he'd have an alternative to driving. He failed his next probation-required breath test.

It might sound counterintuitive but as your fellow family members continue to let you down, you need to step up and support them, be an example you em-effer! Have faith when none can be found, when every member of your family stops living, you can only be a champion of no-one cares. Good luck!

Every time my mother is in the room with my wife, she apologizes for what a burden I am.

And when she called to tell me that Thanksgiving was off, we decided to make plans with my wife's family. Then today she calls to tell me my middle brother is coming home and cooking Thanksgiving and thinks it's so sad that me and my oldest brother "ran the opposite direction" when she told us she was too sick for Thanksgiving.

For reference, my middle brother hardly ever came home in the (extended) years he was in college. But all of a sudden he's a hero.

And this is all on top of many other shenanigans that they've started lately and fucked up shit they've hit me with lately.

How on earth would you be a burden? That would irritate the hell out of me, even if it was in jest. I hope you enjoy thanksgiving with your in-laws, I wouldn't dwell on it much if I were you. You made plans, and that's that.
